Cracks

"We may think that the person who dies with the fewest cracks wins the game, but the lesson of Easter is this: nothing can emerge from an unbroken shell."

Appalling Strangeness

"You can't conceive, nor can I or anyone, the appalling strangeness of the mercy of God." -Graham Green (English author)

"Our all is required. But our all isn't enough. It must combine with His. Only He can lift us to the full reaches of our potential. Much of our secular society says, 'Oh yes I can. I can do it my way." But that is disabling vanity. Even the slightest need for repentance requires Christs's purifying power. And for those of us near despair who cry, 'Oh no, even with Him I cannot go through with this', he replies, 'I can lift. I will heal.'" - Truman Madsen

eyes of my eyes

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any—lifted from the no
of all nothing—human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
- e.e. cummings

Holy Week

"As we approach this holy week—Passover Thursday with its Paschal Lamb, atoning Friday with its cross, Resurrection Sunday with its empty tomb—may we declare ourselves to be more fully disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, not in word only and not only in the flush of comfortable times but in deed and in courage and in faith, including when the path is lonely and when our cross is difficult to bear. This Easter week and always, may we stand by Jesus Christ “at all times and in all things, and in all places that [we] may be in, even until death,” for surely that is how He stood by us when it was unto death and when He had to stand entirely and utterly alone." Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

Middles

"I like middles. . . It is in middles that extremes clash, where ambiguity restlessly rules." --John Updike

“The soil under the grass is dreaming of a young forest, and under the pavement the soil is dreaming of grass.”
